Description

This position is an internship intended for high school and college students.

Historic Interpreters lead hands-on activities, presentations, and demonstrations conveying historical concepts, themes, and ideas. The primary audience is elementary school age students. Most of the work involves setting up and breaking down colonial tents, and leading activities. Additional responsibilities may include light maintenance, special projects, and office/warehouse tasks.

Depending on the position (Camp/Away/Rotating), applicants may be required to travel at least a week at a time and to tent camp in various weather conditions. Camp positions handle events at our living history campsite and schools that are in Johnston and surrounding counties.

Pay stats at$70/day with eligibility toward skills-based raises and bonuses from day one. Avenues of promotion from frontline to supervisor and manager are available. Letters of recommendations are available upon request.

During the school year we take off certain holidays like Good Friday, several days for Thanksgiving, and on average two weeks for Christmas/New Years. During the Summer all staff who are not working summer camp (day camp and/or overnight) are allowed two-three months off. Summer camp staff usually get one to three weeks off during the summer.

This is a great work experience for a gap year and students looking for a career in education, history, parks/recreation, museums, or historic sites.
